What is thinkingwomen?

thinkingwomen is a network including women from politics, art, media, academia, science, business, local and national government, social enterprise, charities, anthropology, music and writing across the globe. All at different stages in our lives, from 18 to 88, with diverse backgrounds and experiences, thinkingwomen welcomes everyone who identifies themselves as a “thinking woman”.

We are also proud to recognise the insight that all our former speakers brought to thinkingwomen, including (to name but a few):

  • Susie Orbach
  • Madeleine Bunting
  • Barbara Stocking
  • Teresa May MP
  • Harriet Harman MP
  • Virginia Bottomly MP
  • Hilary Wainwright
  • Bidisha
  • Professor Carol Black
  • Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz
  • Julia Cleverdon
  • Margaret Hodge MP

As well as being a virtual network, we also meet for regular events in Manchester. Sessions vary as to whether we have speakers or more informal events – either way, the conversation is always lively and friendly. We have learned from all the women who attend to our sessions – everyone’s contribution is welcomed! See here for details of our next event.

Originally set up by women from thinktank Demos in November 2002 as a discussion and networking group for women to meet, share ideas, gain encouragement, and discuss the issues that concern them. thinkingwomen is now supported by Krata, a not-for-profit thinktank working on gender, sustainability and creativity.
